Natural Dyes and Eco Colors | 2015 - Now

From the early days of Meo Meo Atelier, Tram has been driven to make her artistic practices environmentally friendly, focusing on sustainable materials and color palettes.

She sought out leading experts in natural dyes at Vietnam’s National University of Natural Sciences and exchange knowledge with the then emerging international natural dyes community: In 2015, she exchanged knowledge with Fabienne Dorsman-Rey in the Netherlands, and in 2016, with Professor Kikuo Morimoto - founder of IKTT (Innovation of Khmer Traditional Textiles) in Siem Reap.

However, it wasn’t until 2021 that Tram fully immersed herself in natural dyeing process, determined to create a unique color palette for her silk embroidery threads that reflected her personal style. After years of learning from textile heritage communities such as the Hmong, Thai, and Khmer combinging with selftaught and experiencements, she was able to master a number of ancient natural dyeing techniques.

In 2023, she reached a significant milestone, completing a full natural dye palette for her silk threads. She now maintains a natural dye garden in her home in Hoi An.

Tram’s journey in researching and practicing natural dyeing has not only deepened her understanding of interdisciplinary studies, culture, and the close relationship between humans and local nature, but also added a unique personal touch to the color palette of her silk embroidery threads.
