During this period, Tram dedicated herself to collecting and studying Vietnamese embroidery artifacts from the Indochina era, many of which were preserved in Europe. She acquired these pieces through auctions, particularly focusing on damaged or worn textiles that revealed the reverse side of the embroidery, allowing her to meticulously analyze the techniques, materials, and detailed craftsmanship of the time.
This era, regarded as a golden age of Vietnamese embroidery, saw traditional village craftsmanship influenced by French demand and export opportunities. Thanks to Europe’s dry climate, these artifacts were well-preserved, providing Tram with invaluable insight into the techniques of this flourishing period. This research was a significant personal endeavor, combining historical study with the physical examination of both images and real artifacts.
